Finding Filipino-ness

"Despite centuries of colonization, our culture has persisted: we have absorbed foreign language, religion, and cuisine, and we have made them our own. To say that the colonizers have managed to destroy our culture is to assume that the Filipino spirit is weak. It is not."

Placing the modern Filipino in the context of history, this essay offers suggestions on how to reconnect with ancestral memory.

This is a deep dive into indigenous spirituality, language, and gender identity, and how these have transformed throughout history. We will also look at practical ways through which we can connect with academic texts and local communities.

A FREE, shorter version is available, in the form of a one-page zine. You may print copies, cut and fold them, and then distribute them within and beyond your community--just keep them free for everyone! I'm hoping this can be a starter resource for those who are on the journey of reconnecting with ancestral memory.
